Say a prayer for this sweet boy because tomorrow morning he will have his anesthesia port removed at Cook Children's. Larry is working tonight until 4am so he can change and go with us. We check in at 6am and should be home by noon. The procedure itself is very quick, like 20 minutes, but all the prep and paperwork, etc. takes so much time. It's bittersweet because it signals a positive direction in good health but still, someone is cutting into my child's body...again. I'm sure all will be fine and he'll come out of his anesthesia like a bull in a glass cage, so par for the course.
I've been a bit emotional this week with him going back to school and getting ready for tomorrow. I don't consider myself to be a person who gets sappy or overly emotional when it comes to things like this, in my mind's eye I'm a pretty tough chic. Even with Cirstyn being clingy on her first day of school I was good, but seeing Brady not wanting us to leave him and listening to him cry affected me more than I thought it would. Not that I just broke down bawling or anything, but it just kind of hit me like when you have a stinging paper cut or get a nose hair or something. I really didn't expect it because I was prepared, or so I thought. I made it out of the door to Starbright and THEN got really teary. Brady hadn't stayed with anyone that wasn't directly related to him since all this started. It was comforting to know that they group of women whose hands we'd left him in adore him and would take good care of him.
Yesterday after dropping Angelina off from school I was headed to pick up mine and my mom's co-op organic share produce just a few blocks from our house. I was listening to the radio and had it on KLTY Christian radio when on came a song by Mark Shultz I hadn't heard in a long time - He's My Son. I hadn't heard it since finding out about Brady's cancer nor had I even thought about it. Only a few verses in, getting to the chorus and I was a complete mess. It's a beautiful song and I saw myself, my husband and my son right in the middle of it. It was the longest few minutes in a while and it's been in my head ever since. I don't dare play it for Larry as he would be a puddle on the floor! He gets enough of the replay on the daily at work seeing all the places at CCMC where our lives changed, our moments happened. Anyway, it's been in my head and I find myself playing this to his journey over the last 5 months and I remember feeling these same feelings, thinking these same words at different times and now being so thankful knowing God did hear me, hear us, hear you.
Here is a link to the song...I warn you be ready to cry...
I'm down on my knees again tonight,
I'm hoping this prayer will turn out right.
See, there is a boy that needs Your help.
I've done all that I can do myself
His mother is tired,
I'm sure You can understand.
Each night as he sleeps
She goes in to hold his hand,
And she tries
Not to cry
As the tears fill her eyes.
Can You hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can You see him?
Can You make him feel all right?
If You can hear me
Let me take his place some how.
See, he's not just anyone, he's my son.
Sometimes late at night I watch him sleep,
I dream of the boy he'd like to be.
I try to be strong and see him through,
But God, who he needs right now is You.
Let him grow old,
Live life without this fear.
What would I be
Living without him here?
He's so tired,
And he's scared
Let him know that You're there.
Can You hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can You see him?
Can You make him feel all right?
If You can hear me
Let me take his place some how.
See, he's not just anyone, he's my son.
Can You hear me?
Am I getting through tonight?
Can You see him?
Can You make him feel all right?
If You can hear me
Let me take his place somehow.
See, he's not just anyone.
Can You hear me?
Can You see him?
Please don't leave him,
He's my son.
